About the role
At Diamond, we now have the opportunity for a talented Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Installation and Facilities Management (IFM) group. IFM is responsible for all technical aspects of the electrical installation ensuring that it complies with the law, while integrating new projects, buildings and electrical improvements to the existing installation. The IFM is responsible for all the energy on site, from the High Voltage distribution to the Low Voltage network supplying the accelerators, beamlines, laboratories and offices.
The main tasks will include:
- Acting as a High Voltage Authorized Superior Person; provide technical support for high voltage operation, switching and improvement, including protection rating, resiliency and reliability studies. A technical specialist in electrical systems including; protection, harmonics, inverters, solar PV, electrical noise/EMC and grounding systems. Provide high level technical support including technical reports, fault diagnosis and evaluation surveys, electrical and efficiency improvement proposals. Project management of small to medium scale projects ensuring technical compliance. Management of external consultants, contractors, service engineers and vendors, including “design and build” contracts. Implement safe work systems including permits, risk assessments, method statements and contractor vetting applicable to CDM and non-CDM projects.
The electrical installation includes:
- 11 kV and 3.3 kV high voltage network, including protection relays. LV switchboards & Protection and metering relays. Critical and essential supplies with UPS and backup diesel generator systems. Grounding and lightning protection systems. Lighting and emergency lighting systems. Fire alarm and voice activation system including smoke extraction fans and curtains. Conservation of energy; Photovoltaic solar systems.
You will have an electrical engineering degree or demonstrate equivalent experience, and be licensed or work towards becoming a licensed engineer.
You will demonstrate experience of:
- HV and LV electrical systems, including protection classification, harmonics, EMC, electrical noise and associated grounding systems to counter electrical noise. Project management, including working on major engineering projects. HSE and CDM legislation, preparing and reviewing RAMS, operating safe work systems and issuing electrical permits.
You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
